ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST:
This playlist is heavy with yoga musician staples like DJ Drez, Janet Stone, and MC Yogi. We love the music they create and the words they use (or lack there of) to create an ambiance of going inward during yoga classes. Almost all of the music has been released in 2021 and 2022 — some of it may be new to your ears including an album we’re really enjoying called, “Bolo.”
As always, this playlist is created for a 60-minute Vinyasa Yoga class and is only 53 minutes long. Why? We begin classes with 2-3 minutes of silence (pranayama, meditation, or just getting centered in poses like Balasana), followed by 53 minutes of music, and 5 minutes of silence in Savasana.
THE BACKGROUND TO THESE PLAYLISTS:
If you have done a Yoga Teacher Training with us, you know our preference is to teach classes without music and to practice in classes without music. First, to be clear, if you like music in your classes there is nothing “wrong” with that, just as there is nothing “right” about having a music-free flow. For us, this is merely a preference, guided by the methodology to our classes.
Have you ever been in a yoga class with music that has you feeling centered and in-touch with yourself? Yep. Us, too.
Have you ever been in a yoga class with music that is a complete distraction and has you feeling more disconnected to yourself than you were before you walked in? Yep. Us, too.
That said, we decided to help our our trainees, graduates, and all yoga students, by creating a playlist that leaves you feeling centered and inspired.
